Friday, 27th September - What Small DFW Things Will You Be Doing Today???

When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

    Hope everyone is well today?!

It's payday here, so I've been up whizzing money through the accounts so that we can start as we mean to go on!! It's going to be a tight month for us, as we are off to Egypt at the end of the month, so have to save as much as possible!!

Which leads nicely on to today's list:

:) Check online banking - paid overtime :j

:) Transfer straight into savings - if I can't see it, I can't spend it!!

:) Finish ironing and put away

:) Clean house with minimal products and hoover before OH gets home

:) Hoover car (hoover plugged in communal hallway :rotfl:)

    :) 30-day shred and a quick run

:) B/L from stores - tuna on toast!

:) Sort out budget as have been paid a little more than expected, so can make some adjustments to the tight food budget

:) Look for a decent pair of shoes to wear for a wedding later in the month - might try the charity shops in town!

:) Out in Bath tonight for a meal and drinks to celebrate DBIL's 25th Birthday!! The in-laws are paying!! :D

Think that's about it for now, hope everyone has a great day... Lots of love xxx

    Morning DFW-Jedis,

    Thanks for the starter Shoot.

Last night OH and I attended a free Tesco Food (Tasting) Evening (Link). After listening to a short marketing pitch there were lots of free samples of bakery items to try and we both got a massive goodie bag to take away with us which had in it (among other things) raspberries, eggs, butter and cheese. They're running a few of these sessions up and down the UK and are planning to expand and offer Cheese/Meat/Fish evenings etc at more stores soon.

    The List:

:starmod: Breakfast and lunch free from Tesco Goodie bag.

:starmod: Bought new washing-up bowl for £2. Old one had been bleached and bleached but coating had come off plastic and it was in a very sorry state. Old one is now relegated to the hut/shed.

:starmod: Watch DVD from free subscription trial again before posting back.

:starmod: Just been offered another job interview next Thursday. Have a wee think about it. <Hugs to everyone doing the jobs thing just now.>

    :starmod: Check accounts.

:staradmin Used tv24 instead of buying a RadioTimes. (Link)

:starmod: Free mini Bailey's in the post. Put in the Christmas/Hannukah box.

:starmod: Job-seeking. Last session of the week then I'm having the weekend off for a change.

:starmod: Decided not to buy new lawnmower til Spring.

:starmod: Check up on back section of tv unit I varnished to repel mould. If successful varnish the rest of the back.

    Offers:

:starmod: If you have an NUS card take it to Body Shop and get a free Love Your Body card. On your birthday you get a £5 free product and 20% off everything in store before 22nd October. Participation varies, but you could contact them to ask: (Link)

:starmod: £5 off £20 Lego City. (Link)

:starmod: Buy a £1.01 e-Book at Sainsbury's (Link). Get £2.50-worth of Nectar Points or £5 of restaurant vouchers in return. (Link) I have been unable to find exact details of this offer. Buyer beware!

:starmod: How to book your Waitrose Christmas delivery now and get free delivery. You can change the ordered items nearer the time. (Link)

:starmod: 20% off Tesco clothing. (Link)

    Freebies:

:starmod: Free hotdogs via Facebook at larger Tescos. (Link)

:starmod: Free tickets to the Baby & Toddler Show at Event City, Manchester from 27th - 29th September. (Link)

    :starmod: Bird-watching freebie. (Link)

    Payday today so:

    1. Confidence boost! compare last month balance to this month balance seems I saved £800 in September. No idea how I have managed that must be a bill missing somewhere.
    2. Cycled to Work...lost count done it for 5 years! saves £5 a day
    3. Packed lunch at work...day 15 saves £5
    4. Tweak my budget to move my monthly pay in full card from 1st of month to 16th month. Still 2 weeks before next statement but aids my cash flow
    5. Realised now I no longer have an overdraft the bank charges will stop. Set budget accordingly. feels good
    6. Shopped according to a planned menu. Shopping bill above normal need to investigate why! Still within planned budget though.
    7. Told daughter if she wants an Ipad for Xmas she has to save £100 towards it.
    8. Start looking now for a used Ipad 2 before prices go up nearer Xmas.
    9. Spend tonight tidying garage instead of going out. Might find something to sell too!
    10. Looked again at my mortgage free by 2020 plan. Still looks good!
    11. Still in limbo over the new 0% card not knowing statement dates etc. Cant plan correctly, don't like that.

Overall I feel good today! Going the celebrate by not spending anything

  • Hi there- can I join in?

Today I will be paying the contents of my change tin into the bank - and then paying it off one of my CC debts.

I'm going to transfer the pitiful remnants of my savings account into my shiny new instant access one paying more than triple the interest (still peanuts though!). T

I missed the office sandwich man - I only buy from him on Fridays - so have saved myself £2.95 which I have added to the change tin money. Lunch will be instant soup and fruit which I've already got.

Tonight's dinner is pizzas from Asda - assuming they're still on special 2 for £4, the difference will go in the change tin tonight along with my pocket shrapnel.

    That's all for now...

    Brangwen

    Waving from the debt mountain
Unfortunately I've been diagnosed as having brain cancer and am currently undergoing treatment. More details as I get them...
