Credit CardDirect debit payments

Options
Hi guys,

Is it generally possible to get direct debits to be charged straight to a credit card, rather than a debit card, so that all your spend was on the card?

And obviously, pay off the credit card with a direct debit from the debit card.

Thanks!

  • Direct Debits are attached to a bank account not to a debit card and cannot be attached to a credit card in any way

If you want to make a regular payment from a credit card (or a debit card), this is called "continuous payment authority". It is commonly used for things like magazine subscriptions and other small regular payments. You wouldn't normally be able to set one up to pay something like council tax or your gas bill.

Continuous payment authority gives you fewer rights than direct debit - for example it is harder to cancel. As the previous poster says, direct debits come directly from a bank account. You need an account number and sort code to set it up, there are no card details involved.
