I have my laptop on a polished wood table, and just to make sure the wood doesn't get discoloured by heat I put upended matched pill or bottle caps under the laptop feet. It raises the laptop by about 1cm and seems to do the trick. For a larger or longer foot I use something like a peanut butter lid.

You cannot loose a lose goose.
Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
or - Try using it - not losing it.
