If you decide to go for one of the ZooStorm machines or another without an OS, I would recommend that you don't buy an Operating System at the same time.
You can download Windows 7 direct from Microsoft's distributor at no cost and install it to the PC to see how you get on with the machine and Windows 7.
The disc will have a 30 day evaluation period. So that will give you a chance to evaluate the machine.
If you decide to send the machine back within it's evaluation period, you won't be stuck with a useless and expensive licence.
Only purchase the licence/key once you decide to keep the machine.

So you'll just need to buy the tower and we'll talk you through the installation.

Thanks for all your help here :T I'm now thinking maybe I shouldn't be in such a hurry and be a bit more patient with delivery etc.

With the cost of the OS I sort of think maybe it's simpler to buy a desktop with it already installed. Zoostorm seems to be featuring a bit on this forum and I've discovered Argos seem do them with Windows 7 loaded on - they do seem to have a few different models to mull through though :/ Delivery seems to be ? 10 days. Not quite sure right now what to do but thanks everyone, I've made my mind up not to go with the original post :D

We haven't recommend that you buy a ZooStorm from Argos. The ZooStorm from eBuyer is recommended because it is cheap.
Don't worry about the OS for now.

backup and factory restore will put yours back to speedy if that's what prompted the replacement

But an old system is an an old system. Newer software simply won't work on old hardware.

for most users, there's very little software (mostly games), that won't work on old hardware.

The way I see it is what's the harm in trying?

If a restore solves the problem - great! No need to buy a new PC.

If it doesn't, at least you've tried.

What is "old" by the way? My PC is about 7 years old (the components were released longer ago than that, though) and it still runs today's software. About £400 on eBay back in the day.

Edit: just checked and my processor was released in January 2008... thought it was older than that. :p

Hi I'm looking for a desktop...yes definitely a desktop, not a laptop. I currently have a Dell which I bought new and have had more than a few years now.

I'd be using it mainly to have a number of applications open at the same time. Lots of internet browsing, multiple pages together etc. Webcam and skyping.

I thought this refurb seemed a good price. I realise it doesn't come with leads, mouse and keyboards etc but does it have everything else needed? Would I just be able to plug my existing Dell monitor in and go?

I want a pc pretty quick so any advice welcome. Thanks

Agh,can't post links but item is on ebay:
    Windows 7 Dell Core 2 Duo 4GB Ram - 1000GB HD
    dvd
Windows 7, Open Office, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Security Essentials Anti Virus, Adobe Flash Player, VLC media player, Adobe Reader, WinRAR

£149.99 with 1 year warranty. Seller is titanium computers

    Thanks

Love the way they've included a load of software that is ALL free (and I'm assuming the Win7 license was on the box too)

No, I wouldn't buy a Core 2 Duo based system today. Its really out of date.

For £220 ish, ebuyer often knock out cheap desktop units. Ebay in general might get you something pretty decent too, and 2nd hand desktops are cheap.
