Switching Supplier for Gas
Hi All,
A week ago used the Cheap Energy Club to switch from British Gas to NPower on one of their fixed tariffs but have not heard anything from NPower.
I would have thought that NPower would have acknowledged the switch but not a thing.
How long does it take because the Cheap Energy Club advise "You will receive a welcome pack from your new supplier(s) confirming your application details" within a week but I have not had anything.
Anyone else experienced this?

Hi, I started a switch to npower 8 weeks ago and the website stated 'you will receive a welcome pack within 6/7 days' so I eventually cancelled the switch ( which they did act on) however I eventually received the welcome pack after 6 weeks. Their admin seems very poor.
I then started a switch to M&S ( SSE ) and received their pack after 5 days and the switch takes place 1st October. Much better customer service that keeps you informed.0 -
Thanks Keith1950,
I will give them another week or so then decide on another supplier.0 -
There has been a lot of forum topics about NPower's lack of communication over the last year or so, due to problems with their new IT systems not working. Meaning delays in bills, contracts and welcome packs being sent out, couldn't say if these issues have been resolved or your another statistic for this troubled energy company. If you wanted to cancel, your probably still within your cooling off period of 2 weeks, this would depend upon when NPower have processed your application0

They only let me cancel after the 14 cooling off period because they admitted to not having even sent the welcome packs after 23 days !!0

Just been doing some other comparisons and I have a question if anyone can answer.
For gas only I know how much I pay per month by DD (70.00) and I also know how many units I use per year (2011=11,800kWh & 2012=12,700kWh & 2013=looking to be between the previous years).
When I do comparisons with other suppliers using my current monthly DD amount (70.00) instead of my actual yearly usage amount (say 12,250kWh) the monthly DD payable is noticeably greater?
For example, using my current monthly DD amount (70.00) I am given lowest quotes for between 52.00 and 57.00 but using my actual usage amount of say 12,250kWh per year I have had a quote for as low as 42.00 per month!
Can anyone explain this please?0 -
Hi, you should never do comparisons sites using your DD amount as it is the amount they are 'charging' you per month not your actual average usage.
Also it is much better to use comparison sites such as ukpower/uswitch to find the best tariff ( but not switch via them ) and then initiate the switch yourself, cutting out the 'third party'......less chance of errors occurring.
There are cashbacks available through quidco/top cash back and in these cases you are linking through to the suppliers actual site rather than going through a third party.0 -
Thanks again Keith.
Well, its been 1 week today and still no mail from NPower regarding my intended switch. Given the negative feedback here as well as other sites I have seen I think I will dump NPower for another supplier and use my actual usage instead of existing DD cost.0 -

Hello Kartlin,
I can have a look into the progress of your switch over if you email your address details to the email on my profile page.
Thank you
