Problem with switching

Hi
I have used the Cheap Energy Club to try to switch from Eon to M&S Energy on one of their fixed tariffs. I have received a letter from M&S energy saying that I cannot switch because I have an economy 7 meter and I had said that I did not have economy 7. I stopped using the economy 7 tariff some time ago because I was not using enough electricity at night to make it worthwhile. Eon carried on using the old Economy 7 meter and just added the totals together. Does this mean that I need to get a new meter fitted before I can switch to the M&S fixed tariff I had chosen ?
Thanks
Jackie

Not all suppliers support that method of meter reading, daft though it may seem. You'd need to check if SSE do or not.
If they do, then you still need to tell them that you don't want E7. Otherwise, since your meter S/N is categorised as E7, you'll be defaulted to E7 billing.
If not, it'll cost you around £65 for a meter change. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Does seem a bit daft to me also, possibly an admin error, even though you are paying a single rate tariff with Eon, you still have an 2 rate meter at your property. When M&S have tried to register your supply to transfer they have entered you have a single rate meter, as you indicated to them. As part of the registration process, it will have been flagged with the national database you have a 2 rate meter, which conflicts with the registration. You might need to register as a 2 rate meter then switch to a single rate tariff as soon as the transfer has been done.
I don't think Eon charge for a tariff meter change, especially if in your position, you don't use enough energy on the low rate to warrant a 2 rate meter. However this could delay a transfer to a new supplier as would take at least a couple of weeks to arrange the appointment to change the meter.
Also i would check with Eon to confirm you do have a standard E7 meter, as some suppliers will only support this meter type and not other types of 2 rate meters, which maybe the reason for the cancellation. Another reason for changing the meter!!!0 -
Thanks macman and Wolf3. I have sent a message to M&S energy explaining the situation.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0

Just a quick heads up guys. We do usually charge for non-essential meter changes. The current charge is £51.06.
The OP would need to check with us.
Hope this is of interest.
