Sadly, I have to report that my monitor died this morning! interrment took place at 10.00pm in bin in front garden.

    Obituary
after many years of excellent service the Acer monitor which had served under Two PCs 'expired' this morning.
The monitors 'User' said' the monitor was unwell over the last few weeks but, I had hoped with care and and tightening the cable its life could be extended. Sadly, that wasn't to be.'
Techie advice was sought and although there was a 'last minute rally' overnight the monitor must have deteriorated and expired on startup.
many thanks to those who tried to help.

on a brighter note - a new monitor has been purchased and it is working beautifully!

My deepest sympathies. But laying a monitor to rest in landfill is not very environmentally friendly-they're laced with heavy metals and other toxins.
Recycle it with the CRT TV's at your local 'civic amenity compound', as my local tip is now called.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yep, have another one which died in similar circumstances ready to go to the "cowp" as we used to call it. :p

It's been a bad year for monitor deaths. :(
