Someone trying to steal my address?

I dont know where to post this so pleaese move it Mods if its in the wrong place.
Today and yesterday letters both normal and signed for and small packages have arrived at my house addressed to people I have never heard of and who have cetainly never lived here. There are no people of the names in our village. I havent acepted any of them nor signed for anything. The Postie is going to send back anything without our names on it in future,
Why is this happening? Is someone using my address to get credit or a mortgage? What should I do about it?

Did it have the right post code \ Town? I once had something through for the right number & street, but was for a different town, but had been sent from my the local area.. so had been miss sorted at the post office.. Did take a couple of looks before I realised.

Any return details or obvious details from senders on the packaging?

Could it be a previous owner/occupier?

Did they look like letters/ packets from banks/financial institutions? or more irregular?

Its unlikely this is an attempt to get credit at your address, but th e most important thing is that it is not in your name.
If the letters are all returned (and they were from financial lenders) then they will now be alerted to the incorrect address.
A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give
or "It costs nowt to be nice"
  • Maybe, nothing for you to worry about though.

Addresses don't get "Blacklisted" as some think. So your address is fine. The important thing is it is not in your name, as has been said.

If it is, when the items go back to sender it will soon alert the companies something is amiss.

I wonder if you will get a visit from a stranger to collect the packages. If you do, don't give it to them.

Check your bank account for any strange transactions.

Definately not previous occupiers. I'm very pleased about addresses not getting blacklisted! I am just wondering of someone(s) is trying to raise a mortgage on my property or take out a loan against it. Its all most peculiar.
2 of the names of African eg Nigerian? sounding and the other is Greek.
I suspect some sort of scam but cant think what.

Sounds like it then....personally I think it would be wise to obtain a credit report "just in case".

Then maybe alert 101 and just mention it to them. As if people are targeting the area, it all goes to help them track people down. Plus as has been said, if someone turns up asking for parcels or what not or hanging round houses to intercept. They may just keep an eye out.

Your house will be safe, they can't raise anything against it.

Totally agree with notifying the police. There could be anything in those packages
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
