Removal of AP Markers - Barclaycard

I have written to Barclaycard on a couple of occasions asking them to remove AP Markers from my credit file as this is putting me in a worse position than someone who has made no attempt at payment (as per ICO guidelines). To cut a long story short, the AP markers will stay on my file until 2019 whereas a Default would have dropped off in 2015.

I have just received a response from Barclaycard stating they will resolve my query/complaint by the 10th October. I’m not holding my breath but has anyone else had any experience with this? Have Barclaycard been helpful. I’m assuming they’ll stick with the APs saying ‘this is a true reflection of your circumstances’ bla bla bla……

  • I doubt they will change it.

You can refer to FOS if they reject your complaint. Still at least that will cost them £500. May see in your favour.

I agree that this is a rubbish system, but that's the way it is.

    Good luck

  • They might if they should have defaulted you. They changed mine to a default, backdated to 2010 and sent me some compensation as well. Can you argue that they should have defaulted? Did the relationship break down? Has the account been sold? Or did you agree a lower repayment with them in the first place?

In my case they started putting late markers on the file which stopped at 6 and after that they just kept putting 6's on.
  • Thanks for your responses (and apologies for the delay in replying).

The relationship didn’t break down as such. I entered a DMP where they accepted my payment arrangement so I suppose technically they shouldn’t have defaulted me as we came to an arrangement. Having said that, it still puts me in a worse position than someone who hasn’t paid a penny back. I paid mine back in full.

I’ve heard stories of people being successful in removing APs if they complain that they weren’t informed about applying APs. I will wait and see what comes out of the wash.

I have recently finished dealing with Bcard on just this point - they now recognise that they should not be using AP's on accounts in the circumstances you have (pretty much the same as mine) and that accounts should in fact be defaulted - they apologised, gave me £200 in compensation and have removed completely all the records from all 3 main CRA's - you need to speak to their customer complaints team - the person I called was David Kenyon - I am at work but over the weekend I'll add on his number and address - very helpful

  • I would wait until the 10th and see what comes out. I suspect they might agree to default back when they should have.
  • Thanks guys. Fingers crossed the outcome is positive.

Then just onto Tesco who have applied red 6's for the past 4 years.

If you should have been Defaulted then they will change the markers - I was in the same position as Stewart78 who's posted on here - Bcard now recognise that a AP cannot be used beyond 6 months for never ending "arrangements" and will record the proper defaults - my Default date was back in 2007 so the change meant they came off my CRA records altogether

Barclay card put AR on my file for 6 years. My repayment agreement was made in 2006 and they refused to put me back on normal terms once I was sorted. My payments where higher than minimum would have been for the last 4 years but I had negotiated 1% a month interest so the AR was valid.

Even though the AR can still be seen, both have been settled for 12 months now and seem to have no effect on my ability to get credit now - and I only apply for what may be my benefit so its 0% credit cards and stuff - although the credit limits they give are not massive.

That's really interesting - while my Bcard's are no longer on my file, I did have AP markers on MBNA cards and Next Directory - they are both showing as green each month now as the DRA on MBNA accepts they aren't in an arrangement now? Have been for over two years and I have agreed to come of the arrangement with Next (that was nearly a year ago and they have even now reinstated a credit limit), so green but old AP's still show and I have wondered what effect they may have in the future. Your comments (and others I have seen) seem to indicate that they dont have two detrimental effect the older they get
