I recieved a letter today saying I would be recieving a home visit in a few days, completly out of the blue. I am currently on job seekers allowance. The letter states the reason for the visit is: "We are coming to visit you to undertake a mandatory benefit check."
I'm panicing and im not exactly sure what this is all about. As far as I am aware I haven't done anything wrong, can anyone offer advice on what this is about and what i should expect? Are they going to inspect my house?
please help!!!

No they can't inspect your house, you live there, it's your house, unless you let them.
Just talk to them at doorstep, in hall, wherever you decide.
If they haven't told you what it's about, they can't expect you to have anything ready, other than basic checks.
Could be routine basic check to confirm you are living at that address and other basic details. You may have been picked at random.0 -
The letter reads as follows: "We will be visiting you on XX september 2013 in the morning or afternoon, between 9am and 12pm. The person coming to see you is *name*. the appointment will takeplace at *my address*. Reason we want to see you: We are coming to visit you to undertake a mandatory benefit check. It also asks me to provide proof of ID. And that is it.0

There may be several reasons for this - for example you may have been reported as having a partner, or someone else may have put in a claim elsewhere using your details.
They cannot at this stage require your cooperation - however if you do not give it at this point, your benefit may be terminated, or possibly you required to attend an interview under caution - which you can be required to attend.
If you have legitimately declared everything relevant to JSA - then you have nothing to worry about.
If you have not - then let them know.0 -

Sounds routine, likely you have been picked at random.
Talk to them wherever you decide & are comfortable with.0 -
I didn't know they did random checks. I rang the job center and the lady was nice and said nothing was wrong and i wasn't in trouble, it's just something they do. But she didn't check my account or anything. But after reading online at peoples experiences, though Im not sure if this is the same since my letter doesn't say "Compliance officer" or "a problem has arisen", I'm just worried
Anyone else had this kind of visit?0 -
Bumping this because I'm stressing out0

my mam received a very similar letter.
then the visit took place, it was actually regarding a pension she had from an old job.
they took her through the options i.e. claiming a lump sum or receiving a weekly amount, which would then affect her benefits.0 -

Why? Unless you are hiding millions off shore or have something to hide then don't worry.
If they've asked for ID I assume its a random check that you the person lives there.
Some people sub let, or have credit at another address etc, makes perfect sense they want to spot check.
If they had any sinister thoughts they'd have put you under investigation and it would be interview under caution.0
