Need a new compact desktop pc

Our Acer pc is on its last legs and we are looking for a replacement.

We dont need a monitor as we connect it to the tv and we have a keyboard. We dont play games on it.

The problem is that it needs to be small like the Acer to fit in the tv unit.

Any ideas please?

    Vostro 270s Slim Tower
    Processor: Intel Celeron G465 (1.80GHz, 1.5MB)
    Windows® 8 Pro
    2 GB (1x2GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC
500 GB 3.5inch SATA III Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    16X DVD +/- RW Drive
    Slim Tower
    Back Up Media Not Included
    Display: Not Included
Windows 8 Professional (64 Bit OS)
Wireless : Dell Wireless 1506 Card
    Dell USB Keyboard

    Three Year Warranty

    Vostro 270s £245

Would recommend spending another £20 on a low profile graphics card for the playback of Full HD content to the TV.

What is wrong with the ACER? What is the full model number of the offending machine?

If you go for A6-3650, you probably don't need additional GPU to play full HD
  • If you fancy a change, why not try a Mini Mac - I'm sure there will be a few smart comments for even suggesting this - but would certainly fit the bill :).

Not a fan of SFF, but as it is what the OP wants, this one certainly fits the bill.

last legs usually means slow, reinstalling windows using acer erecovery (after backing up) cures slow - see speedup sticky

Its an L???? the one with the battery in a yellow casing which you cant get anymore. The date goes back to 2006 everyday and the wrong time, but now when you try to change the date it is just bouncing along the dates and years so you cant click on anything. It is 5 or 6 years old now. When you try to open a folder it bounces to another one so you just cant do anything. It was reformated about 3 weeks ago and stuff reinstalled which worked (apart from keeping date and time) but its just back to where it was then - useless.

the time/date is held by a cmos battery, which costs a £1 or so, and takes seconds to fit.

in the meantime, set it to sync with a time server on boot, (click on the clock bottom right)

sounds like you have a sticky keyboard or mouse, or dead battery if wireless.

    Aspire L310?

It's just a standard CR2032 battery. You can simply take the thing apart and place the new battery within. Use some duct tape to hold the connectors on firmly in the way that they were originally connected to the battery.

Will get a battery tomorrow and try that.

Will replace the batteries in the mouse and keyboard to see if it makes a difference.

Funny thing is that when you can get in search and type it types the word backwards so if you want to get to the computer icon you have to type retupmoc.

It will be brill if we can sort it out and not buy a new one.
