Parking near a tube station from Bristol direction
Hi, firstly apologies if this is in the wrong place, couldn't decide between this board and the public transport one, so please move it if I'm wrong!
I am looking at going in to London on a week day in November for the day, and am considering parking somewhere on the outskirts of London and then getting the tube in, I'll be coming from Bristol area, but have no idea where would be a good place to park as I usually get the train in! I love the tube (I know, weird) so am quite happy with a long tube journey, and would rather pay to leave my car somewhere safeish such as a proper car park or shopping centre rather than street parking.
Thanks in advance,
JB x

I normally park at Hatton Cross or Hounslow West which is not too far away from M4.
Parking prices....

I was about to suggest hounslow west area, but I've been beaten to it!0

If looking for free on street car parking around Kew or Chiswick (just off Junction 1 off the M4), and take tube in from Kew Gardens Station or Gunnersbury.
Strand-on-the-Green (http://goo.gl/maps/m79li) by the river in Chiswick is a good place to park, it will be on street but it's a fairly safe area. Kew Bridge rail station is nearby, too.0 -
Osterley is my favourite, however I usually only use its car park in the evening, it might be a tad busy during the day. The other one I've used is Rayners Lane, which is handy for the Metropolitan Line.0

I stayed in Richmond a few weeks back and rented a space in someone's driveway for £5.50 a day.

The parking space was just a 5 minute walk from Richmond tube / train station , we went out from Richmond on a tube direct to Westminster and retuned on a train from Victoria station changing at Clapham Junction , both journeys were approx. 30 minutes.
Both trips ( and others inbetween during the day ) were made on an £8 off peak day travel card.

DH went up with the kids and parked at slough station. He paid £7.50 I think for the whole day. It's listed on parkopedia.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0

Not at all! I've been navigating my family around London by tube since I was about 10 years old.Friends from London are always amazed by my knowledge of London, though its all by the tube map, I'm useless on the streets. If you go Richmond or Kew its quicker to get a train into Waterloo, unless you would prefer to sit on the District line for fun of course.
I'm presuming there's a reason you're not getting the train?0 -
Thank you so much for your help - just a few additonal queries:
Hounslow West and Hatton Cross were my first thought too, but I wasn't sure if they might be very busy on a weekday. Any ideas as to whether this would or wouldn't be the case?
As for any on street parking, would this be meters or free in the areas being suggested? Also - how busy?
Finally - not getting the train because it is prohibitively expensive, £70 for two of us on advance tickets, plus the additional costs of the tube on top.0 -
Osterley is fine. There has been room in midweek when I've used it. Cost is £6 and it is right next to A4. No on street free parking near any stations on this bit of the line0

I use Perivale on the Central Line, just off the A40.
From Bristol M4 to M25, then about 3 miles of M25 to M40 which turns into the A40. Perivale station is about 10 miles from the M25.
The station has it's own car park, just pass the station on the right.0
