Mazda car insurance: worth it?

Hi there,
I've just bought a 3-year old Mazda 2. I'm looking at insurance quotes.

Now Mazda offer their own insurance, which is quite a lot more expensive than the quotes I've found by doing some comparisons.

The advantages that Mazda put forward are:
- they guarantee that the car will be repaired at a Mazda approved repair centre, using only Mazda parts, and that the resale value is protected
- the policy offers a free courtesy car and 30 days EU cover (which I need anyway), personal accident cover, medical treatment up to £500, cover to drive other vehicles, personal possession cover, windscreen cover as standard.

Is it worth it?

Thanks for your advice!

  • Mazda insurance is a Zenith underwritten product, have a look at them for some opinions.

I disagree that "most" insurers charge an additional excess to use a garage of your choice. Aviva does but not many others. It is unlikely that you wouldnt be able to use a Mazda garage under a normal policy and get a courtesy car anyway, just avoid Aviva if this is important to you.

The rest of the items you can get from a variety of other insurers and it depends on how much you want to stay on brand or not

Not too much of a benefit. Most insurers will only repair via 'approved' repariers - many of which will be dealerships. They're unlikely to use the local cowboy with a garage under a railway bridge.

I'd also be interested to hear how they can protect your 'resale value'.

Most insurers will offer this, either as standard or as extras. If you want it, weigh up the cost of having this added to the cheaper policies. Legal protection cover can normally be added for about £25.
