Lights gone out

The electric man was here yesterday to put in a new meter.
last night as it went dark we put the lights on in the kitchen, when they fizzed a bit and all wentout. Same in the living room. No other lights are affected. I checked the fuse box and all is ok there - but the ceiling roses n both rooms don't light up any bulbs.
I'm really stuck - can any one give me any pointers before I £shell out on a sparks?

Why on earth are you considering spending your own money on a sparks when clearly what you should be doing is saying to the company "it was all fine until your man came and did what you asked him to do but since he's been here it isn't!" Coincidence is a wonderful concept but the balance of probablility is that something has happened as a result of his work so they should look at it for you FOC. The telephone is over there =>The electric man was here yesterday to put in a new meter.

Changing the lamps is unlikely to solve it either IMHO.

From our experience the electricity board will not want to know. We had our earthing removed when they changed our supply cable, we had to argue quite a lot and in the end they did pay for the electricians bill. However the fact that not all your electricity is effected would suggest that the meter change may be a coincidence, ask an electrician and see what he says!0

Thanks all
Bulbs were checked and ok
I was on to them this am, and they insist it's just a coincidence:mad:
Think I'll have to get a sparks - see what he says, because I can't handle a lomg protracted argument right now - i'm frazzled enough!0 -
This is shocking!"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

If you lost ALL power (ie sockets and lights) then yes I think you would recourse to the meter man - but as it's just the lights, then I think it's coincidence. You'll need to get an electrician0

As above. A meter change and consequent fault would affect all circuits, so your ring mains would be dead too. As far as I can tell, you've lost only your downstairs lighting circuit. All your ring mains and your upstairs lighting circuit are OK?
If so there's no connection. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Can you try switching the breaker for the lights all the way down and then up again. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!
