Been running Vista for ages (came on 'new' PC) and now want to upgrade to Win7 - is this still possible?
What do I need to do to prepare for this - apart from saving/backing up docs?
Will my programmes be migrated straight over or will they need reloading?
As we are moving house want to do this asap so that everything is ready before the move.
Thanks for your help.

Vista to W7 is an 'inline'' upgrade-you don't need to do a clean install (but you can if you wish). You still need to back up just in case though. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

We upgraded my pc from Vista to Windows 7 earlier this year (check that your version of Vista is OK to upgrade to the version of Windows 7 that you have bought, not every combination is allowed). We backed up everything and did a clean reinstall though so I'm not sure how much would have carried across.0

Thanks for the info - really helpful and reassuring.0 -
You should have a backup of your important data anyway. Have you to an external drive? You can use Easy Transfer in you choose to run a Clean Install.
What is the brand and full model number of your PC?0 -

Have now run the Windows upgrade advisor tool and can have Win7 32-bit.
Will leave this until later this week/weekend to run. Looks 'simple' enough but I know these techie things...
Thanks for the advice again.0
