Is this an MOT fail

Hi all,

I have just bought a used Audi A3 private, On the dashboard there is a light on to say the brake pads are worn, the person i bought the car off had brake pads fitted on the last MOT (less than 12 months) and said that that the light had been on since the change of pads and they could get it off (am going for a dodgy sensor)

Would the car fail an MOT with the light on? also the back wiper motor is knackered would that fail too? The wiper motor isn't much of a problem as i will most probably get that replaced next week its more of the light on the dash as i know the pads are good.

Thanks for any info

  • Did the car get new pads front and rear?

They probably didn't buy a new brake pad sensor, they cost about a £10 each. If you have time you could just buy a sensor, you will have one on the back and one on the front.

  • ^^^^^^^ This or brake fluid reservoir is low from when they did the pads.

I'm pretty sure the rear wiper isn't part of the MOT test, best to get it fixed though or remove it.

Is it me or does there seem to be a spate of Audi problems on this board at the moment?

  • Cheers for the info, i will check the receipts to see if all brake pads were done, when i looked up the light in the manual the light was only in reference to the front pads, which i know were changed.

The wiper will be fixed next week as i will need it before the winter sets in, if its just as easy as fitting a new sensor for the light to go away then that's great, cheers
  • May be the rear pads need changing, assuming you have discs and not drums....dont know about the A3's.

    Good luck !

  • Brake pad wear light & rear wiper are not part of the mot - However, a brake fluid warning lamp is.

The pad sensors are common for being a problem on these cars, because they clip in a slightly different way to what is normal (hence some idiot, usually a tyre fitter or a Sunday mechanic being heavy handed and breaking them)

I see it regular, other than that there is also the chance the pads are actually worn :)
