I stand corrected, thanks.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
In those days all my research was done from the financial papers and lots of intermediary mailshots but always used a discount broker for minimum charges - thank the lord for the info on the net today. However I did not do bad at all considering. Single Peps in Marks did well, but Glaxo did not after Perpetual did not want to hold them anymore and TD Waterhouse had expensive charges so they were all sold and proceeds into my funds.
I remember the launch of the Virgin tracker with a huge amount of publicity (and active vs passive articles) and wondered what all the fuss was about considering you could get the L&G much cheaper! In 18 years of PEPs/ISAs I've never held a tracker (no recommendation one way or the other).0 -

Sadly I fell for the thrall of the man in the pinstripe suit, with the gold watch and charming smile, who assured me that their products were expensive because, yes, they were that good.
My excuse? Back then, information was harder to obtain, markets were soaring so fees seemed like small beer, and everywhere you turned there was "loads of money!"
Nowadays we all have to be more canny, and we need to ensure the well-dressed intermediaries get as little of our hard-earned as is possible.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
