Boiler Replacement

I am planning on replaceing my 28 year old heat only boiler to a new combi boiler. I have had two quotes so far (getting another two), but just wanting to know how expensive these quotes are.

I am going from a heated tank to full combi, (worcester 32kW combi) and the boiler is being moved about half a meter from my kitchen floor to my utility room wall (next to the pipe tunnel). I know that there will be brick work to repair the original flue hole and electrical work to connect the boiler and controls, as well as removing the hot and cold tanks.

so far i have had a british gas quote of £4k, minus £300 as part of the scrappage. A local plumber has quoted me about £3K

does this sound about right (at least the second quote). I think the boiler is about £1200, so there will be £1700 in materials and labour?

thanks

British Gas are always most expensive, but they do provide a complete breakdown of costs so you should know what else you are paying for in addition to the boiler.

Take off the other materials you will need and the remainder is the labour cost.

    From the £1700:

Works to move boiler including brickwork
    Powerflush
    Flue kit
    Electrics
    New timer/thermostat
Pipework, both copper and condensate drain. You may also need an upgrade to 22mm supply pipe.

    Whatever is left is labour.

I also got a quote from british gas about the same but I am replacing combi to combi and its a huge amount but when I spoke with them they knocked off 5% but still its more expensive than a local plumber, I called another company and they gave me a quote of about 2k but I am FTB and the property i bought was not used for months and once we started staying in there it started getting better so we kept the plans of changing boiler on hold for some time. Hopefully its not going to die on me in peak of winters. :)

I got a Worcester Bosch combi installed last year in a new place in my house (about two metres away from original position) with a towel radiator fitted (might as well do it at the same time). The brick wall was filled in and extension to the flue was all done. Price came to under £2900 with a 7 year warranty included. So £3K sounds about right to me. I'm in East Anglia if that helps with regional pricing variations.

Oh and it was a 32kW also :)

Can I ask if you are happy with your combi? We are getting quotes atm and can't decide whether to get combi or standard boiler?

Combi/conventional choice is determined by a) lifestyle, and b) your property (no. of baths/showers, water pressure and flow rate, as checked by your RGI during the site survey).
Subject to that, they both work perfectly well.

  • hey all, thanks for the input. I had another quote, installation of a new worcester for £2,000, or a replacement worcester and 7 radiators (plus TRV's) for £3,000. sounds very good. only issue maybe is that they dont match the brick work when repairing the hole made by the old flue.
