Virgin Media Cable - Wired Ethernet Speeds

I was recently upgraded from 100Mb to 120 and didn't notice any difference in the actual speed at my desktop computer using a wired ethernet connection - still at 94Mb or thereabouts. A little investigation revealed that my old cable was Cat.4 which is only rated to 100Mb. The Virgin Superhub and my computer both have Gigabit network capability. I changed the cable to the newest Cat 5e and I'm now hitting 115/116Mb at the computer.
Thought this might be helpful to anyone else moaning about Virgin speeds!

Thanks for the advice, its not something I think most people would think of.

Actually, the 'newest' cable is Cat 6 and Cat 6a (but unless you really need them they should probably be avoided).

One other thing to note is that doing download speed tests via WiFi can give low results; for example, on a VM business 50 Mbps down, I got 48 Mbps wired and just about 30 Mbps via WiFi on a laptop...
