We've been told that they also get redirected.

CPAs are not switched - see paragraph 1.4 of the switching T&Cs:
Note: If you have arranged to make recurring payments using your Old Account debit card number, your Old Bank won’t know your New Account debit card number so won’t be able to transfer these to your New Account. This means that there is no guarantee that payment requests sent to your Old Account will be redirected to your New Account. The supplier may contact you to request the details of your New Account debit card.
We recommend that you contact the supplier to set up a new recurring payment to ensure any service you receive (e.g. insurance) is not interrupted.

Maybe it is to process any outstanding card payments that were processed/authorised in the 7 day switching "window" that were not debited whilst the account was still active? Makes sense as your new account would be debited accordingly. Afterall outstanding cheques written on the old bank will be debited from the new one.
  • My switch has gone through today, the important part is the balance of my account has gone without a hitch.

I raised a secure message with Santander concerning the 100+ bill payments they seem to have collected as part of the change over and which will take me ages to manually delete. So far no response from them.

In addition, since yesterday two duplicate direct debits have appeared.

Perhaps these are just glitches, but it would be nice if computer A could talk to computer B... I could have copied the details of both bill and DDs manually without creating dozens of duplicate entries...

Oh well, perhaps someone will clear the clutter at Santander.
