Santander and my credit file

I am after some advice.

I have just spent 6 months on the dole, and finally got a job 2 weeks ago. I borrowed money to pay off the arrears on the mortgage, and did this promptly. After checking my credit file I see that I am showing as a 1/5 on Noddle. NOT GREAT. When I look into it it seems that Santander have recorded my as having 4 months of late/non payments.

Going back 6 months I asked Santander what would happen if I made no payment, or made some payment on the mortgage, and was told it would be recorded differently on the credit file. Having now spoken to them, that is not true, a partial payment (which I was making) counts as a late payment or no payment, they do not report it any differently, so it looks like (to the credit agency) I have not made a payment for 4 months on the mortgage.

When I quizzed Santander they have admitted they do not report partial payments as a payment on the credit score. I feel that Santander forced me into making a partial payment I could not afford, to there benefit, not mine, as it has mde no difference on the credit score.

Any advice on what I can or should do?

Thanks

Craig

    Hi

By paying something towards your mortgage each month I would argue that you have had a benefit - in that they haven't commenced court action against you and they haven't issued a default on your credit file, and you will have incurred less interest overall than if you had paid nothing.

Did you miss 6 payments in total? if so then it looks like by paying something this it has kept you arrears to 4 months and so is recorded as 4months arrears not 6 months arrears.

As to what you can do keep paying everything on time and in time it will have a reduced impact on your ability to get credit.

  • The file shows 4 so called missed payments. No idea why, I paid 4 months at a set amount (£250) and 2 months with the Govt help.
