Unauthorised Search On File?

Because of this happening to me last week / this week I opted to check my credit files with Equifax and Experian.
On checking Equifax I see a search has been performed on my credit file on 06/09/2013 for Barclaycard HD Decisions LTD.
It says 'Consumer Enquiry' on my current address and 'Additional Addresses' on my other previous addresses, although lived where I am now for over 3 years.
Now I think I recall when I was looking for an additional credit card, using a tool online to pre-determine whether I would get a card... but I am certain it said 'No Credit Check' would be performed. So why can I see a search on my credit file?
Now I only see it on Equifax, not yet got access to Experian, waiting on passcode in the post!
Any answers gratefully received!

A soft check leaves no visible foot print. In that other lenders will not see it. Lenders have to check some basic details in order to allow the application to progress further. The outcome of a soft check does not determine the outcome of an application. A hard check will still be performed at a later date.0

Oh thank you so much for that, it has put my mind at ease! Cheers!0 -
You should only ever see a 'credit application' footprint when you've actually applied for credit. All the other types of footprinmt do not count as far as credit scoring is concerned.
