MBNA chq without explanation of breakdown

Hi
Not my usual thread but hope you guys might have experienced this.
My dd put a claim in to mbna april 2012. Went to Obusman jan 2013.
Finally today she gets a 'full and final' chq in the post for £1400.
No breakdown just states it is for ppi from start of card in 2007.
Now this card was always used, sometimes cleared but usually balance between 1.5k and 3k at all times. Has been maxed to 6.5k at times.
Dd estimates average ppi cost per month on statements she has found is around £25 per month.
I think they are trying it on as they know she has just finished maternity leave and card is nearly maxed. She has never missed a payment.
She says if ppi was average of £15 a month for term of card then without interest she shoul be offered minimum of £2400.
She has never had an offer either verbally or in writing so has never accepted anything.
Basically what I would like to know is has anyone had a similar thing happen and if so did you return the chq and what was the outcome?
Thanks in advance.

The interest doesn't work like that on credit card. You onyl get interest on any amount the card would have been in credit, which it doesn't sound like it would have been.
