Hi
We bought a video camera in February from John Lewis. Two year parts and labour guarantee.
It started going wrong in May - intermittent fault of camera turning off while recording. We finally took it back to John Lewis in July and asked what they would do, they sent it off to panasonic and said it would take a month. Not impressed - we had bought it to film our new baby, but what can you do?
We got it back about three weeks ago and have just tried it out for the first time- now it doesn't record at all, and more than that, there are scratches to the bodywork that weren't there before.
What are my rights? I am really !!!!ed off with both JL and Panasonic and would like the camera replaced as I forsee a long tedious battle to keep getting it mended. But I suspect this will not be an offer from JOhn Lewis. What can I do?

I do find it strange that you waited two months before reporting the problem to JL, and then being 'not impressed' when they get it repaired and returned to you in half that time.
I am also puzzled that having mentioned that you needed the thing urgently 'to film our new baby', it was another three weeks before you even looked at it to discover the scratches.
I would suggest that waiting that extra three weeks is probably a good indication that you have accepted the scratches.
If it still doesn't work then report that back to JL or Panasonic.0 -
It was an intermittent fault like I say, so at first we just thought it was a one-off blip. When it became apparent it wasn't we took it back.
We have been using a friend's camera in the meantime to record our baby, which is why we didn't immediately use ours.
I only used our camera today for the first time, which is when I found it didn't work and when I noticed the scratches. Which is when I posted this, and rang John Lewis.
And yeah, we're not perfect and we didn't do things like clockwork and exactly like we should have done. Because you know, we're busy with babies and that kind of thing. I just kind of assumed that if you bought an item which is not fit for purpose the shop replaces it.
But thanks for the concern.0
