Misleading Sainsburys Credit Card

I try to collect as many Nectar points as I can so thought I'd switch to a Sainsbury's Credit Card - their promo being:

Introductory Reward
10 Nectar points per £1 spent onSainsbury's shopping for the first 3 months from account opening (capped at£1,000 spend per month) and 1 Nectar point for every £5 spent on your cardelsewhere.

Just had my 1st statement in and points didn't look right so queried it - reply:

I confirm that you will earn Nectar points at a rate of 8 points for every £1 in Sainsbury’s stores in the first three months and 1 point for every £5 elsewhere. You can earn an additional 2 points when swiping your Nectar Card at the same time as paying for goods with your credit card and these points will appear on your till receipt.

I would have got the 'additional' 2 points as usual when using my Nectar Card anyway - this is really misleading, does anyone else think so?

If that's not mentioned in the small print then I would write a complaint with a copy of the introductory offer.

A little misleading at first glance, but the detail/small print on their website does make it clear.

As per this link - the info at the bottom under ††explains the terms

Strange the first mention of the offer doesn't have the †† next to it but the image on the right of the page has it.

I would give it a go as the page isn't consistent, and the ASA would rule that the advert didn't make it clear on the headline offer that terms applied.
  • Have just had a look and yes it is in the small print - states that you have to use your credit card and Nectar card togther to get the 10 points , but it is still a misleading promotion, well I think so anyway, maybe will give others a head's up not to expect an extra 10 points - only 8 :). Yes I agree dotdash, I don't think it's made clear.

How many nectar card points are you missing and what's the value?

I would give it another go, they might give you some they might not.

Complaining that you feel it wasn't clear might still get you the additional points back (if you didn't use your normal nectar card when shopping so didn't get the normal points). Worth an email?

  • Thank you, I did use my Nectar card at the same time so in fact I'm not missing any points, it was just that I was expecting the extra 10 points for using the credit card and as we have since discovered it's 8 plus the 2 usually earned with Nectar card. I did email and got the reply which I quoted at first, I have emailed a reply to say that I thought their advertising very misleading - we shall see what they say to that!
