It doesn't seem likely that it was someone who didn't get in on the deal. It seems much more like a completely predictable failure of a vendor to properly serve customers who had placed orders where time was clearly of the essence:
"Arena explained that they were only aware very late on 13 February that some orders would not be shipped, and that it then took them some time to work out which orders had been shipped successfully. They said affected customers were sent an e-mail at noon on 14 February"
Much better should be expected of suppliers who know that most of their orders are time critical. As it was, Arena missed telling customers on the evening of the 13th when most would have been able to arrange an alternative, and instead used a low urgency method half way through the next day that ensured many wouldn't.
What I learned from this was simply that: Arena doesn't have adequate systems to take care of its customers if one of the failures that can be expected - a missed supply delivery - happens.
MSE just got roped in because it promoted Arena.0
