Washing machine repair - how long is too long?

I have a Hotpoint washing machine. It's 5 months old.
9 weeks ago an engineer visited as the machine was making a terrible squeeling noise and the drum sounded rough. He diagnsosed a fault drum and said it would need a replacement.
The noise is getting worse and now, 9 weeks on, they still can't tell me when the part will be in stock. In the meantime, the machine appears to be shaking more and the cold water fill seems to be much more noisy than when we bought it.
How long do I have to give the company to fix this? Should I go back to Argos (the retailer) or are they going to fob me off?

9 Weeks? That's far too long, even Currys will replace a washing machine that's within the first year after 28 days of repair time.
Contact Argos and simply state that 9 weeks for a repair is too long and you're wanting a exchange or refund.0 -

I took your advice and did just that. They were very helpful - unable to get through on the phone to Hotpoint (same problem I have had) so they've emailed Hotpoint and told them to replace the machine.
I'll post back here with the response. 9 weeks for a spare part is pretty poor. I could have sailed to China and picked it up myself in that time lol.Happy with my advice? The please use the 'thanks' button vvvvvvvvvvvvv0
