Service packages for new cars

The wife and I will be collecting our brand new Vauxhall Astra 1.7 CDti this Friday and I am wondering if anyone has any experience either positive or negative with reference to the servicing packages being offered by our Vauxhall dealership?
As a new user of this forum I can`t post a link but basically the choices are these:
Silver Service - £16.99 per month-standard maintenance schedule carried out by trained technicians, genuine parts and 5% discount off of parts and labour 1-3 years.
Gold service - £21.99 per month - all above plus courtesy car while being serviced, engine flush and fuel supplements, Full AA cover( worth up to £180 per year), litre of oil, and Free wash and vac every time.
How necessary are they, are they good value for money, should I sign up immediately, would anyone recommend which package and why?
Not much time for a response before Friday but better late than never.
Thank you an advance all who reply.

The VW package is £299 for 3 yrs or 3 services which would equate to under £11 per month, so those Vaux prices don't seem great value.
How much are the services normally?0 -
My experience, for me I did the maths when I bought a new Vauxhall Astra 1.8VVT three years ago and not doing the plan has worked better for me.
First 12 months car came with AA, after this AA send you a letter to get the 2nd year for about £35-£50 (75% off RRP).
Services cost me
1st £150ish
2nd £172
3rd £129 +£27.30 MOT
At Vauxhall main dealers including warranty renew.
When your car reaches 2 years old you can apply for the Masterfit Club which gives you
Years 2-3 15% off servicing & repairs (parts too)
Years 3+ 25% off servicing & repairs (parts too)
Half price MOTs
The prices I have paid are usually down to a bit of haggling, ie calling a few other dealers and getting my regular to price beat.
Do the maths and see what works better for you, also consider the benefit of equal monthly payments against a lump sum every service.
Also time it right when you join Masterfit club and you will be able to use the £25 voucher towards a service in year 2-3

VW are also running adverts on the radio (at least here) saying they will price match local independent garages so really sticking the boot in but perhaps decent for VW owners.
Don't forget OP that the £180 you save on AA membership could easily be a £140 saving anyway simply by joining some of the recovery services suggested on here like AutoAidWhat if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
VW do have a pretty good one. When I got my Up I got 3 years servicing for £99. Then they stuffed up the ordering and got the wrong colour dash. A £200 apology later and I reckon I've been paid £101 by VW for 3 years servicing. :-)0

Not really, you just were compensated for not getting what you ordered.0 -
This plan sounds like a dealership one rather than a manufacturer backed one.HoppieMaky wrote: »The wife and I will be collecting our brand new Vauxhall Astra 1.7 CDti this Friday and I am wondering if anyone has any experience either positive or negative with reference to the servicing packages being offered by our Vauxhall dealership?

If it is dealer backed then find out what happens if they go bust.
Also find out what the current cost of the services would be if you weren't on the plan then compare the cost over the term.
For me I wouldn't be paying anything above a standard service cost. Engine flushes/treatments are pure snake oil and most dealers will give you a loan car if you book far enough in advance.0 -
How many miles are you going to do a year?0
