Damage Caused By Carpet Fitter

I purchased flooring with fitting from a shop. I paid for the flooring at the time and was told to pay the fitter when the job had been done.

The fitter removed my bath panel to fit the flooring (without asking permission) and when he fitted it back on again he damaged the panel (it has cracked and has a gaping hole!).

As I paid the fitter separately I am not sure who is responsible, the shop or the fitter?

Are they require to replace the bath panel?

Any help would be much appreciated before I tackle them!

I'm struggling to understand why you paid the fitter after doing such a bad job. Did he mention it at all.

Get in touch with the fitters employer and take photographs.

I wasn't looking at the bath when he'd finished I was looking at the flooring! I didn't realise the bath was damaged until he had left :mad: had I seen the damage I wouldn't have paid him.

He may just deny all knowledge of the damage and it will be very hard to prove.

It all depends on what contract(s) you had.

If the fitter was working for the carpet company, then it is they who are responsible.

If the carpet company merely sold you the carpet and put you in touch with a recommended fitter, then the fitter is responsible.
