Defaults on Credit File-Satisfied

Can you get these removed?

Ive satisfied all of my debts but ive still got Defaults

    No, these will stay on your file for 6years from the date of default (as shown on the file).

    They should be clearly marked on your credit file to show that they are satisfied and that there is no outstanding balance. If they are not then contact your creditors to insist they update your credit files.

    Are the default dates shown on your file correct/reasonable?

    Not unless you didn't actually default on the original agreement.

    Otherwise there'd be no point in having a credit file.

    They may well not be the right dates.

    Usually a debt isn't sold to a debt collector until well after you have defaulted on the agreement.

    A debt collector isn't allowed to change the original default date entered by the original creditor. A default date should usually be within 3 to 6months of you falling behind with repayments.

    If the default dates are unfairly late you may be able to challenge them, which would mean the default dates are corrected to older dates, and that they then fall off your credit file sooner.
