Best deals for vodka?

Bit strange to ask. Don't worry, I'm not an alcoholic!
My partner and I created food and drink hampers for Christmas last year and made different flavoured liquers. We are going to do it again this year, however the vodka for the liqueurs proved costly last year. Does anyone know where the cheapest offers are for it? Own brand is fine. Or if there is anyway to buy a case of vodka at discount.
Thank you all in advance.

I made my raspberry vodka last year with bottles of the Lidl vodka which I think was around £9 a bottle and worked brilliantly.0

+1 for Lidl, who will not do you a discount, but whose vodka takes on fruit flavours deliciously...0

Aldi vokda is about the same price, also if you need a few bottles then use a voucher for £5 off £40 from the newspaper that they do at the end of the month(tomorrow for this months)
You may look like and alcoholic but it saves a few £s :-)0 -
Lidl vodka is filth, I wouldn't use it. I actually returned the bottle I bought a few weeks agoWe have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

Is the £9 per bottle at Lidl for 1 litre or 70cl ?
If it's for a litre I don't think you're going to beat that. If you don't want to give your hamper recipients too much of a headache then Russian Standard is on offer in Sainsburys at the moment for £16 per litre which is a bargain for a premium brand (Smirnoff is currently £20 at Sainsburys and £18 at Asda for example).0 -
It doesn't matter too much what the vodka tastes like to begin with as it's just a base.
I'm assuming the Lidl one is 70cl... but still a good price when having to buy quite a few bottles.
Thanks for everyones help so far!0 -
Ah great, will keep an eye out for it to get even cheaper at Morrisons. I can see the record was £15 at Asda at the end of July so a little while to go yet.0

I normally make some flavoured vodka for xmas time too. I find buying premium vodka like smirnoff etc a waste, but then again you don't want to buy too cheap and ruin it if the vodka tastes like paint stripper. Not tried the aldi/lidl vodka so I can't vouch for how that is - but I do most of my shopping in aldi so I may pick up a bottle from there and give it a try.
Last year I used something mid-range like red square I think it was, that was my way of keeping the cost down without sacrificing the quality.
As an aside - I also make jams/chutneys/things like that to put in my xmas hampers, which are really cheap to make if you forage the fruit. For example I had over a kilo of blackberries which I picked this year and around 3 kilos of plums from a friends plum tree which he inherited with his new house.
I have just made 8 jars of jam (2 for me 6 for prezzies) with 1kg of the blackberries and will be making blackberry vodka with the remainder. Plums I have turned into plum jam so far and I have lots more in the freezer ready to make a plum and chilli chutney and a chinese style plum sauce tomorrow. I also swapped somebody at work a jar of rhubarb jam in exchange for the glut of rhubarb they brought me in. Again, couple of jars for me, couple for presents. I'll also be making Nigella's chilli jam with the bag of chillies that one of the other girls brought me, and I'll be passing her back a jar of it in return.
Anyway, I waffle, but my point is that the jams/chutneys aren't as expensive to make as the vodka - might be a way of sticking with the theme but cutting costs a little? Or maybe it would also allow you to keep some of your seasonal liqeurs for yourselfNo point going to all the effort of making it if you don't keep some for yourself too.
This is WAY more fun than monopoly.0 -
We make chutneys too, they are a really cheap to make. But we make big hampers, with homemade biscuits, shortbread, truffles, chutneys etc, some nice cheese and either wine/liqueurs.
Your plum and chilli chutney sounds nice though
We're going with a tomato and chilli one and then a nice fruit jam (not sure which though yet)
Thanks.0
