Best Corded Hammer Drills

I have an old Black and Decker Hammer drill that needs replacing. I am old fashioned and prefer a corded drill if possible one that could combine as an electic screwdriver (I am not sure sure whether these are available). I am looking for a drill that will undertake all household jobs and also drill into brickwork for outside jobs. What kind of wattage should I be looking at. The Bosch 680RE Compact Hammer drill has been suggested Is this suitable for my needs. I am not a DIY fanatic and only use the Drill and Screwdriver when required so I am looking for a drill for an amateur and hopefully one thast is not too heavy. Any advise as a starter point would be appreciated

That drill is good but it will likely drive you nuts if you try and use it as a screwdriver as it doesn't have an adjustable slip clutch.0

I would be interested if anyone could recommend a corded combination drill and screwdriver for under £70. I keep forgetting to charge my cordless items. Thank you0

Even if you are old fashioned, try a cordless one. I did and I am plesantly surprised by how light and how versatile it was. It was a Bosch PSB 18v. Drilled no bother into a prefab 1940s solid concrete wall that I had real trouble with with a normal corded heavy duty hammer drill.
I would recommend piranha mortar bits though....
You could go to a large diy firm and ask if you could try one of their display models....they might say yes...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
I use a variable speed Skil hammer drill for screwdriving larger screws. It works well, but I would not recommend it for smaller, more delicate work as it is too bulky and lacks torque control.
If your hammer drill is still ok for drilling into masonry one of these may be ideal.http://www.amazon.co.uk/Skil-Energy-Corded-Drill-Driver/dp/B004Z0VX48
Note. This will not drill into masonry!.0 -
Bought my dad a combi hammer-screwdriver cordless drill (Makita) with one battery. He always used to use corded but he uses his cordless all the time now. Get one with a Li-ion battery as they charge a lot quicker than NiCd so you only need one battery. My dad's battery charges in 20 mins, so unless you use constantly then 20 mins is a good excuse for a tea break

I'd also like some feedback on this matter. Looking for a good, general purpose drill (which need not have a screwdriver function)... and ideally for less money than I'd have to spend on the Bosches of this world.
Is there no reasonable quality brand at a lower price..?0 -
Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. Ebay is always worth a look....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

I got an energiser one from screw fix for £26.
Not tried it on brick work yet but certainly good value so far in the 2 weeks I've had it.
Only complaint is the lock on function but I don't use that.0 -

I've got one of these

I did have issues with the chuck being difficult to turn so I couldn't get drill bits in or out. In a fit of rage (I really needed to use it), I attacked it with a hammer beating the living cack out of it and it's worked perfectly ever since.0
