  • Hi Lovely People!!

    Thanks for the kick-off bt1!!

Foxgloves, do enlighten me on the porridge pots - these would be great for work for me too!!

It's finally day's off for me!! YAY!! :j So not much on my list today, as have spent most of it sleeping off nights! But here goes:

:) Check online banking - no nasty surprises

    :) Nectar Adpoints & Swagbucks

:) Washed car at work at 5am this morning :p also topped up tyre pressures, screenwash, oil etc.
Car is due it's first MOT next month, so want to check it's definitely going to pass before finding the cheapest test!!

:) OH working overtime at after-school club...
We're finding that if both of us take what's offered OT-wise, we can earn an extra £200-£300 per month when it's busy... Making hay while the sun shines!!

:) Dinner from stores - cheapo Lidl pizza and rocket salad from allotment - will cycle up there for free exercise!! :D

:) Economy wash body armour cover as it stinks!!

:) Arrange with DMIL about house-sitting next week... Looking after the menagerie of animals in return for no bills at home and free food for a week - also closer to work for OH, saving £50 fuel, so can potentially put some extra cash away in savings!

:) Start making the lovely moleskin notebook OH got me for my birthday pretty - she calls it my "MSE book" :rotfl: Going to be lots of pretty charts and goals and plans and lists in there!!!!

:) Quick shower, pluck eyebrows, home-face mask and foot scrub to pamper after a hard week of work and rugby! No training today as body needs a break!

:) NSD - doing well, no more spends 'til payday now!!

:) Heating staying off - hoodies on!!

Think that's about it - enjoying a lazy day catching up on life!!! :D

    Hope everyone is well!!

shootforthemoon- The porridge pot ideas in the links ally provided are mostly more imaginative than mine. To be honest, I thought of this very much as 'Porridge Pot Mark 1' & expected to get to about Mark 27 before mr f said he liked them, but now wrong I was! He scoffed down the sample & said he liked it. All I did was put 50g porridge oats in plastic heatproof lidded tub, added 1/2 tsp sugar, 1 tbsp sultanas, 1 rounded tbsp Co-op basics skimmed milk powder & stirred it together. To eat it, I added a little boiling water to mix it to a paste, then about another 120ml. I stirred it in, then put the lid on for a couple of mins for the oats to absorb some of the liquid. It's not smooth like the instant oats, but I prefer that. I think the individual pots are expensive to buy, but my main objection to them is the waste of resources with all the plastic pots. I think other people on here make their own & probably with more finesse than this, plus there are lots of ideas on the link, so you'll be able to try lots of different ones & come up with your own version. I was thinking cinnamon & dried cranberries but that got a less than enthusiastic look from mr f who is clearly a bit of a breakfast purist.

unimaginativeusername - That's great. Really good value. I tried a new recipe today: a Madhur Jaffrey version of a Mrs Beeton curry sauce. It's like 'chip shop' curry sauce rather than proper curry. I've served it tonight on top of spicy chicken rice. I reckon that like your soup, it must cost pence. The only ingredients are a pint of chicken stock (I used my home-made stock from freezer with 1/2 a stock cube thrown in), 1 tbsp. oil or butter, 50g finely chopped onions, 1 tomato, 1tbsp cornflour, 1 tbsp. curry powder & a bit of salt. It made easily enough for 4, more if people just want a drizzle rather than a deluge! Although I'll always prefer cooking a proper curry from scratch with all the individual spices, etc, I think this sauce definitely has a place on the cheap & tasty money-stretching front.
