Do companies have to honour a mis-quote

Hello,
I have received a house removals quote which I accepted via the companies supplied acceptance form only to be told that they accidentally sent me the wrong price. Do they have to honour the original price or not?
Confused from London

Actually no. If the contract is not yet signed they don't and a quote isn't a contract despite your accepting the price as being one you are prepared to go with. The question is does your signing the company's Acceptance Form form a contract between you or is it just a form that results in contract documents being sent to you? You'll have to read the small print to find out.
I'm not sure it would be in your interest to try and force it either - 'cos I guess thats what you are thinking. They aren't going to do a particularly good job if there is no money in it even though it might be their mistake.
Purely as a matter of interest how far out was it for how much gear to be moved how far?

No they don't have to stand by the quote. You cannot force them to work to a mistake.
Same as a shop, if they have the wrong price advertised they do not have to sell to you at that price.0 -
Thanks for your replies.
We're moving 200 miles, 2 bed house and the costs were £1229.50 + VAT. We've ended up paying £1700 + VAT.
We were going to accept the price anyway and only asked if there was something else they could do when this all happened. I just wanted to see what anyone said. The company gave me another small discount before I accepted though so I'm happy.
I agree that they would only resent a job that they didn't make any money and when they've got your whole life in their van then resentment is not something you need!
Anyway it's all resolved and thanks for your advice:)0 -
So thats one pantechnicon plus one crew for a 400 mile round trip. £2k inclusive is probably about right. They haven't shafted you.
Enjoy the new place.
