Standing orders

I need to move a standing order from one bank to another.

Am I right in assuming I just set it up with the same account details and reference with the new bank and cancel it with the old.

    You are right.
Make sure you cancel it well in advance (a few days) before the due date as the cancellation is likely to be not instant.

better to do it a few days *after* a payment then they have the whole period to process it.

This is a standing order, not a direct debit. At most, cancellation will be 2 working days.
