    You need to be aware of several things before you contact DWP.

    Firstly, although you might ask just for the mobility component to be looked at (if this is what you were thinking of as you now have physical problems too), DWP can - and probably will - look at your care needs too and could reduce your current award.

    Secondly, to get HRC you need to demonstrate that you now need significant care day and night. If your needs have increased during the day only, for instance, that would not move you from MRC to HRC.

    If you feel that your current award is secure and that you now qualify for a higher award then go for it. You would still be assessed for DLA if you start the process before the middle of Oct. However, if you think that you stand a better chance with the PIP descriptors you should wait for a few weeks.
