moving care plan to another borough

Hi

My parents want to move from one borough to another.

If my mum has a care plan (she's disable on highest rate DLA)
can the care plan be transferred to another borough or would she need to be assessed all over again?

They recently had a wet room fitted by the council (approx. 1 yr ago). I have a few questions which I hope someone can answer.

1. I am currently paid by the council to be my mums carer, approx. £330 per month. Can that care package be transferred over to another borough?

2. Can her blue badge be transferred over?

3. Will they have to repay the council for the wet room?

Is DLA means tested? Could her package be cancelled altogether if she has XX amount in the bank?

Right now she is contemplating not selling and staying put because she's worried she will lose everything.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

DLA is not means tested. If the wet room was fitted with a Disabled Facilities Grant, I think they should look at the agreement which came with that. Blue Badge stays with her until renewal.

The rest is more problematic: I suspect the new council would have to reassess her, but you could start by asking?

sue is correct. the new council would reassess your mum.
it all depends on the levels of care and support that each council provides. your mum may be entitled to more or less care depending on the resilts of the assessment.

my council is one of the best in the country when it comes to funding care for the disabled, and my care packages is just over £1000 a month.
i know for a fact, that if i moved to the next council's area, i would receive a fraction of this

That should all be in the paperwork. When my parents had one installed, they would have had to pay back a lump sum to the council if they moved within five years.

DLA is not means tested but PIP is coming in and I think savings will affect that.
  • Many thanks.

I just spoke to the other borough and they said they would take over the current care plan and continue with my direct payments but would need to undertake their own assessment. Still trying to find out if they would need to repay the wet room but it looks as though they would.

Hi it depends on the reason for the move as Im sure in our agreement the council stated that if a job was found, move to be near family or more suitable accomadation then the grant would not have to be paid back.
You should find the imformation on your councils website.
