After removal of ceiling tiles

Have just removed polystyrene celing tiles in a bungalow |Im having renovated. Looks like they have been put up with something water based rather than tile cement. Possibly wall paper glue. The developer arranging the plasterer has told me to soften off the glue with hot water, and scrape off . Then another person developing his own property, said if it was water based, it would be fine as it would actually help the plaster to stick and to just give it a quick sand over and brush off.. Who is right please?

They used to use heavy duty wallpaper paste to stick them (among other things). water with stardrops, and a sponge mop will do the trick.
A thankyou is payment enough .

If you warm the glue with a diy hot air gun (not much) perhaps a hair dryer it should easily scrape off

This worked for me and left very little residue just a quick sand perhaps and repaint

  • What Im actually wondering , is if I can get away with doing nothing but brush it over to remove any little bobbles of polystyrene if its true that the old water based glue will actually aid the plaster skim to stick ?
