Computer freezing - mouse pointer just slows to a stop & then nothing works

Now i know you're going to need more info than that, so if you ask i'll do my best to answer, but i don't know at this moment what info you'll need.

It's only just started doing it, which is annoying.

I built it myself in 2010 & it's been fine until now.

    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T
    16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (recently updated driver. Possible cause?)
    Windows 7 Pro SP1 64bit.

Does it do this at a particular interval or time, say 20mins after switch-on from cold?

Could it be caused by overheating? How long is it since you cleaned the dust out of it? If it's a desktop, take it out into the open air, take the side cover off, and give it a good going over with a can of compressed air to blow the dust out of fan inlets and outlets, and out of the processor heatsink.

I believe there are/is temperature monitors out there that you can download - if it works long enough to download one of these ....

You could open Task Manager and see if anything is hogging resources in the lead up to the mouse failing.
  • Well i rolled back the Nvidia driver to its previous

lo & behold ... problem (appears to be) solved.

Must be a bad update then??
