I doubt you will, mainly because they wouldn't let you open a new one with them if they just closed you down.

Why doubt? i won't open a new HSBC one.... like a week after they closed my account.

i'll be waiting at least a year fella.

got 4 other accounts anyway so like i said not fussed but they closed my account down is rather silly enough money coming in (just not 500 a month on the dot)

but seeing as i add 120 400 80 even 10 in during a month it still doesn't make them happy but that is way over 500 pound lol.. they're pathetic.

Do you really think banks have such a short memory? You may have seen in posts here that First Direct, a sub of HSBC, appears to remember any and all people that ever had any account with them. That's just one example. It's easy for an IT system to remember, and storage is cheap.

This was covered by BBC Moneybox on Saturday 28th September 2013. Jump to 4:20 for the relevant part.

The programme suggested that these account closures are particularly frequent with customers whose names are "not typically British" and that anti money laundering measures could be to blame. One interviewee was likewise given 60 days' notice. It's not just HSBC, but most of the major banks were mentioned.

Looking at this latest post, it's very tempting to agree with your assessment.

Never argue with an idiot, they will only drag you down to their level.

    Absolutely.
The topic was the account being closed down for unknown reason.

Hardly a surprise that you caused mess and confusion by hijacking it with an absolutely OOT case.

If an account gets closed down like per the OP you stand no chance to reopen it for many years ahead, let alone in a year.

I have also heard about this happening to friends where they get a letter saying account would be closed in 60 days - they explained the circumstances around the account to their bank manager and they reviewed it as there were some additional legit transactions coming in

How far does this spread - ie does your name then go on another database to stop you being able to open any other bank account or credit cards and also affect your credit rating

There should always be an opportunity to explain the situation as you may have an extra work bonus or have sold a car or some furniture which means irregular payments may come in

Who can you go and complain to in circumstances like this - I assume it's the financial ombudsman ?
