Redundancy is the least of my problems. Can anyone help?!

Hi. Not sure if this is the right thread to be using but I couldn't find a more sensible forum. Just looking for some advice really. I have recently been given 4 weeks redundancy notice but that's not my problem. Just 3 days later, my company can was broken into and my personal tools taken, as well as some company equipment.
My company has said they aren't able to claim for my tools as they "should be taken out of the vehicle on evenings and weekends" Now, my problem is that at no point was I ever told to take any equipment out of my van. Do I have any cause for claiming for the cost of my tools? As I'm being made redundant and the replacement cost of all my equipment is probably nigh on £1000, I feel that I'm just being fobbed off. Any help would be massively appreciated.

IME companies with vans insured either don't have cover for contents out of working hours or very high excesses so a claim may well be pointlessChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0
