Ebay case opened for iPhone sold in August

    Don't escalate it, let buyer do that and if they don't it will just time out.

    Incidentally, it. Is 45 days from payment for a PayPal claim, not sale date.

  • Ah right ok, eBay live chat told me to escalate after eight days so I'll just leave that. I think it counts as 46 days after payment date so fingers crossed I'll be ok.

    I'll respond now through the case as suggested above.

    Never ever do anything that live chat tell you, if I had listened to them a few months back I would now be suspended as they advised me to directly breach ebay rules.

    They will only do this to cover periods such as postal strikes, national disasters etc, and if the 45 day period is being extended, ebay will state this on their announcement pages.

    Actually this isn't the only reason. Ebay will allow cases to be opened indefinitely for various reasons which is discretionary but seems to be more widespread than adhoc. I have one currently where I am the purchaser and it's 59 days. As a seller I have had them nearly 100 days. Ebay (pinks) have confirmed that the buyer cannot escalate after 45 days and the procedure is there to 'encourage dialogue', but I haven't had a case escalated after this time so am unsure if that is factual.

    And back to the OP. Do NOT escalate the case under ANY circumstances.

    I have one case open currently, which was opened yesterday 25 September. You can see the purchase date was 31 July. So giving there were no postal strikes, national disasters etc then the buyer has been given additional time to SNAD. 56 days for this one, which is one of the shorter ones. Incidentally, the buyer hasn't asked for a refund but a replacement part (this comes in two parts and he has lost one). So cases are just an abrasive way for buyers and sellers to talk imho.

    Thanks everyone for your help. The buyer escalated the case this morning and I don't have to refund. It says the case was decided in the buyer's favour. You won't have to reimburse your buyer for this transaction. Not sure what it means for the buyer but I'm pleased I don't have to refund.

    Thanks again, I think following the advice given here and not eBay live chat helped.
