Warning re: tax rebate emails

Have been sent email claiming to be from the direct.gov website about a tax refund. It isn't genuine and I wanted to warn others about it.
It also starts with a warning not to share the email with anyone. It does look genuine, but they haven't got any name, address details ( plus I know that I am not owed a refund, I've just finished paying off money I owed!)

The easy way to spot if these emails are fake; is to ask yourself when you gave the taxman, your email address.0

Most of us are familiar with this scam but it doesn't harm as a reminder to us and a warning to the Newbies.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Good to warn others, and if people are remotely taken in by this they should ask themselves which is easier
getting money from the taxman, or blood from a stone. Then think if they are going to make it easy for you by sending an email to get it back.0 -
I get these from time to time and are aware of them.
If you're due a refund, the tax office will let you know in writing and by no other means.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £24,616.090 -

I never gave my email address to the Viagra salesmen, gambling sites, dating agencies, weight loss gurus, etc, etc - but that didn't seem to stop them !:D

Now come on, oh yes you did:p0 -
Just had one of these come into my junk mail, couldn't remember giving them my email address though, so figured it was best to check here if others had received one, and find out what was going on with it.0

Also received one today saying I had a £638 (I think) rebate and to click on the link to claim, it strangely only listed the credit/ debit cards that they would accept for my refund, mine wasn't included, perhaps the scammers are becoming too fussy.0

HMRC will NEVER email anyone regarding a refund and will always simply issue a cheque to the best of my knowledge. HTHNo One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0

If it went direct to your junk mail, why did you feel the need to even look at it, never mind checking anything?0
