Nexus 7 screen issue again

Hello,
I remember a thread on here that had simple but effective instructions for when the screen went blank and basically turned off - either battery was loose or it needed a hard reset.
For me the batery came loose on holiday when I checked and then it worked fine again - but now it has done the same thing - black screen with white bits of 'snow' for a better word round the edges, like a telly.
So I follow the instructions again when I plug it in and that seems to turn off. I then plug the charger in again and the battery charging Icon comes up on the screen perfectly clear and none of the rubbish- BRILLIANT. Until I go to try and turn it on again and it goes back to how I described before.
What else can I do? Or am I just not leaving it to charge for long enough before I attempt to turn it on again? Im at a loss and will need it for this weekends camping trip so was looking for any help at all you clever people can give as the thread on google groups is now closed and locked.
Many thanks:T
