Any bathroom designers or fitters?

I'm looking to update my downstairs loo, hoping to achieve a champagne level finish on a lager budget ... but am stumbling at the first hurdle in finding a slim enough unit for sitting a bowl type basin on and for hiding the plumbing. The perfect size would be:
  • 85cm wide (but could go narrower)
  • 30cm deep (could go to 36cm if no other option)
  • 40cm high should be enough to cover the stretch of piping, and if this height the unit would obviously be wall mounted. But floor standing height would be fine too.
Otherwise a nice solid counter-top would be lovely to just sit a bowl type basin on but then i'd need some suggestions for hiding the plumbing underneath - the pictures you see online are all neat little chrome traps centered under a nice counter or open unit but my pipes a la 70's plumbing style will be coming from the left hand side wall up at about a 45degree angle to the middle of the unit and would look so much better out of sight.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

  • Not suggesting you buy this but just to give you food for thought. Would a similar unit, wall hung with a counter top and basin on top do?

If you can't find ready made consider obtaining quotes from local joiner.

That's a great idea DirectDebacle ! i hadn't thought of a bridging unit and it wouldn't matter if i (or a man who does) has to cut a small bit of the length.
Good suggestion i ask a local joiner too. Reassuring i have some options :)

IMO a modified kitchen unit is going to look like exactly what it is:

You'd be far better off with something like this:

    LARGE.jpg

which is wall mounted and 800 wide x 360 deep and 400 high. From Bathstore at £249 including basin but excluding tap and an extra 10% off if you buy by COB on Sunday. There have to be other similar ones from other suppliers. Just haven't looked atm tbh.

Whilst you are at it if the pipework is a) in the way and b) unsightly fix it whilst the work is being done.

  • Get yourself to a bathroom showroom, pick up some catalogues and pick some brains whilst you're there.

Also look here http://www.aquacabinets.com/ - you'll find you can probably get them cheaper from a local retailer. There are several cloakroom ones that will do the trick.

Cheers guys, Keystone i like that example you gave but its showing as 2cm too deep on bathstore's website, darn :) Popped by a showroom today, nothing too inspiring but have come away with a bundle of brochures to work my way through. I'm still thinking a kitchen cabinet mightn't look so bad :/

  • I'd go for something like this before using a kitchen cabinet.
