Help - Dvd Burner Tray

Just bought a new pc and spent yesterday installing various progs, etc. The dvd tray was in the out position, the phone rang, I turned round quickly and hit the tray hard with my knee.
The whole tray came out but seems undamaged. I put back on guide rail but cannot get it to retract more than an inch, either by pushing or using the button. Must have happened to somebody before, is there a trick I am missing?

It sounds like you put the tray back on the rails in the wrong position. the mechanism only moves a set distance all the way back is closed all the way forward is open, if it was part way back and you put the tray back on with it all the way forward then it can only move back the remaining distance left.
You need to remove the drive from the PC and take it apart remove the tray, power the drive up again and press the eject so the mechanism moves to fully open, then fix the tray on in the fully open position, check it works before putting it back together. if it does put it back together and back in the PC, if it doesnt then repeat untill its right.

    or

buy a new drive they are cheap enough as it is.

or phone whoever and tell them the drive wont close no need to tell them to t****d it with you knee ;)

Thanks, I took the last option and they took me through diagnostics with the end result I am getting a new drive tomoorow from them. Actually I believe that there was a fault all along as I had previously reported excessive noise when loading a cd, so the accident was beneficial.
