14 year old bank account that can be used abroad

My daughter spends time between UK and Spain. She is 14 years old. Is there a bank account she can have here which will give her a card that she can use to withdraw cash at cash points in Spain.
Working hard to reduce debts and get better value for money :o

  • Most banks have basic bank accounts and as long as she has a debit card linked to the account (mastercard or visa) she can withdraw money anywhere in the world.

I would double check with her bank account already - but it would also be good to look at the fee free cards that are available

But how many of those cards/accounts are available to a 14YO???? Precious few if any.

AFAIK, many (most?) basic accounts, especially for children, come with a cash card that can't be used abroad.

I think a prepaid card is a more realistic alternative: Top overseas prepaid cards
  • Would generally agree with the above, however since it's Spain you're looking for, try Santander - usually terrible for abroad, if you use their debit card in a Santander ATM in Spain withdrawals are free - no idea whether that extends to their accounts they offer to minors, but worth a look perhaps.
  • There are no free abroad current accounts for Teenagers for under 16s. The free Santander UK withdrawal does not apply to under 18s account. HSBC and Barclays have the lowest fee for using their card abroad. They both offer Visa debits to under 16s.
