Dishwasher error code claims it's not reaching right temperature - advice needed....

Hello - I've got a Baumatic slimline dishwasher that's been bleeping three quarters of the way through a wash cycle since the weekend and coming up with error code 'E3'.
According to the book this means it's not reaching the right temperature and warns it's an offical 'engineer' job to fix.......
As it only bleeps towards the end of its cycle I'm wondering if the 'temperature' problem is with the rinse cycle as all my dishes seem to still be coming out clean (thank goodness!) although seems to be soap suds in bottom of machine which seems to be sorted by then doing a separate 'rinse' cycle.
Am guessing these machines are designed to flash up alerts if they're even one to two degrees less than normal so don't want to fork out for an engineer if it's a minor thing and something I could live with though on the down side does mean doing a separate rinse every time now : (
It's a Baumatic BDW45.1 - about 4 years old and cost less than £200 so have horrid feeling repair may not be worth it anyway? Any dishwasher experts out there who've seen this problem before? Thanks very much!

Do you live in a hard water area? I had a similar problem a few years ago which eventually turned out to be due to the element being scaled up and becoming less efficient at transferring the heat to the water.0

thanks for that thought - really helpful - yes I do live in a hard water area and am now wondering if I fling a cup of vinegar through the system if that could descale it enough to fight off that error code......
will give it a go and report back!0
