Our Toyota Corolla verso (2007) was on a service plan with a Toyota dealer. The last service was full service 6 months ago and no work was needed. They were just interested in selling me rubbish oil and diesel tank treatment which I stupidly took. Anyway I did not look at the paper work till today (I know it is my fault) and noticed that in their report they checked the diesel fuel filter as amber and wrote (Need replacing at 40000 miles) but they did not replace it as part of the service. Toyota service schedule states that fuel filter should be replaced at 40000 miles and when they serviced the car it was over 44000 miles. I phoned them today and the guy was confused, could not explain why they did not change it but eventually said that there was no need to change it as it was still working (Rubbish)..What should I do now? the car is not due for service till February 2014?

  • Take it back and get them to change it....fuel filters are about £15 and labour shouldn't be more than 1 hour....make sure you get a free courtesy car though and a free cuppa !!!!

The Toyota dealer I used for my last service also missed three things, to my knowledge, that should have been done and included as part of the full service. Engine air filter inspection, pollen filter inspection and key fob battery change. Not "massive" items but they should have been done. They pleaded guilty when challenged!
Yes, take it back. Did you receive a customer satisfaction questionnaire from Toyota?

By the looks of it the OP wasn't charged for the fuel filter to be changed.

OP mentioned they have a service plan, this should cover the cost of service items.
  • Contact trading standards, if it is on the service plan, they have charged for that plan and if the work has not been done, you have been defrauded by the dealer.
Yes it is a very important part as well, it traps water and when full it will send it down the fuel lines and shaft up the entire injection system.
    Be happy...;)

update...just spoke to the head of service at the dealership who was very helpful...apparantly the filter was changed two years ago but I have not got that in my paper work..it was changed early because of the age of the car (Low mileage)..more importantly, apparantly my Verso range has been affected by engine problem which Toyota has aknowledged and offering to replace the whole engine even if out of warranty (my car is 6 years old)..they booked me in for a free check and they are confident they can help

Sounds like the HGF issue on Toyotas and Lexus engines, suppose to be a fairly high fail rate too.

I'd be wondering if they'd bothered to even touch the car at all........

The problem with dealerships is that the admin staff (who never get their hands dirty) set the daily targets for the mechanics/technicians, often very unrealistic targets. The mechanics/technicians then do stuff like skipping jobs in order to basically keep their jobs.

Channel 4's "Undercover Boss" series showed how this happens (unrealistic targets) in their Hyundia episode. I think it's on Youtube....
