Just in short. I have problem with British Gas as they want me to pay for electricity meter which is not mine. I´ve been told that they send G4S engineer to confirm the correct MSN (serial number) for my meter 3 times. I don´t know about previous visits but last when engineer told me that my correct electricity meter is the one I know it is but reported to BG something else!
Does anybody know who can confirm or somehow certified that my meter is mine???
Thank you.

Check you own s/n. Take a photo of the S/N and send it to them.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Unfortunately it's not going to work as they have their own report from G4S with different one :( And as I live in block of flats the wrong and wrong are just next to each other :(
  • Do a test and burn, initially means a little leg work from you! Have everything off in your property (& I mean EVERYTHING!) look at "your" meter and the wrong one, go back to your flat & switch EVERYTHING on cooker (if ele) the meter will start registering usage, this is a sure fire way to determine which is your meter. Do this AND take a picture and tell them you've actioned a T&B.

Thanks. I know which meter is mine and done the T&B and was told by BG the same test was done by G4S :( and they don't believe me :(

The it's time for an official complaint. In writing (not by email, not by phone), send by RD, head it 'Complaint'. The ball is then in their court with the clock ticking.

If G4s did the same test they must have accessed your property to switch on some power?
Were you there at the time, if so did you see the actual meter move.
I suspect that you did not see them so how could they have proved which was your meter, or have I missed something.

No you didn't miss a thing! I can't proof to BG that nobody was here first 2times :( I know that engineer was here 3dr time and as i wrote above, told me that meter I know is mine is definitely mine but gave BG report with something else!
They think I'm liar who wants to pay for meter with lower reading :( And they change it after I paid for right meter for 2.5 years!

You must start off on the premise that all energy companies are incompetent and treat them as such. As macman says from now on do everything in writing starting with a letter marked big and bold COMPLAINT. Include any photographs and other evidence you have of your actual meter. They then have 8 weeks to conclude the matter to your satisfaction, if not you then forward the matter to the ombudsman.

Thanks. I forwarded it to the ombudsman already. But don`t believe in ombudsman services 100% as they are funded with energy suppliers as a BG and I read some stories where even the ombudsman does`t help.
I wondered if anyone had a same problem and mostly who to ask to accurately and professionally confirm which meter is mine???
  • You could email the MD of BG, my friend did that when he had a problem that had been dragging on for ages and got it sorted tout suite.

There's a website with the emails of most CEO/MDs for major companies, I would post the link but this pathetic forum won't allow it. Google for "ceo email" to find it.
